.the journey begins

There comes a time in every musician's life when they realize they have "made it."

Success to an artist is not necessarily measured in numeric values, like our parents and the IRS measure success. Our success is measured in the ability to survive, pay bills, and save money using only our art - and to me, success means never having to wait tables again.

That time came to me several years ago, when I was gigging frequently and even my day job had me surrounded with string instruments and music. I thought, surely with all of my skills and training, and general violiny usefulness, I will never have to wait tables again. I have made it.

I've recently found myself in a place in life where I am unable to gig enough and with not enough time on land to find a job repairing violins. I've taken a day job for minimum wage in a darling little tea shop, but I still can't help but be a bit depressed about the whole thing. I thought, surely there must be a way to make money using my creativity, instead of waiting around for another time in my life where I think I have made it.

The Floating Violin Studio has been an idea subtly bubbling on the back burner for several years now, and finally I have both the motivation and time to get it going.
